Real Estate Agent License Renewal in Wyoming
Wyoming renews every three years by December 31 for $350, and 24 of the 45 required hours come from a course catalogue the Commission rebuilds annually.

| Renewal cycle | Every 3 years |
|---|---|
| CE hours required | 45 hours 45 hours per three-year renewal cycle for an active salesperson or associate broker: 24 hours of required education plus 21 hours of elective education. An active responsible broker owes 53 hours instead, being 32 required (which must include one broker management course) plus the same 21 elective. All hours must be completed during the three previous years. A newly issued licence renews by December 31 of the year it was issued with no continuing education, and that renewal is what starts the three-year cycle. Inactive licences must still be renewed on the regular cycle but require no continuing education, and reactivating requires proof of all the education for the cycle. Completing the Wyoming Broker Management course counts toward elective hours for a salesperson or associate broker. |

Wyoming does not hand you a list of subjects and let you shop. It writes the required-course criteria itself, republishes them every March, takes proposals from schools in July, and approves the catalogue by September. Twenty-four of your forty-five hours come out of that annual process, and a class you passed in one cycle cannot be counted again in the same cycle.
Forty-five hours, split twenty-four and twenty-one
An active salesperson or associate broker completes 45 hours in each three-year renewal cycle: 24 hours of required education and 21 hours of elective education, all of it completed during the three previous years.
The elective side is a subject list. Classes have to be relevant to the industry in business management, ethics, customer relations and marketing, legal and regulatory compliance, sales, property management and leasing, financing, environmental issues, community relations, community planning, or construction. The Commission can add subjects when it thinks it appropriate.
The required side is a catalogue rather than a subject list. Every class is at least three clock hours, a credit hour is 50 minutes, and each approved required class stays valid from January 1 following approval through December 31 of the following year. Asynchronous online required classes have to be certified by IDECC on top of the Commission’s own approval, and live classes delivered by webinar are capped at 50 participants.
The rule that catches repeat customers: a completed required class counts once for required credit in a renewal cycle. Taking the same three-hour class in year one and again in year three earns three hours, not six.
Responsible brokers owe fifty-three
A responsible broker carries a different total: 32 hours of required education, which must include one broker management course, plus the same 21 elective hours, for 53 in all.
That is a genuine supplement rather than a relabelling. A responsible broker is doing everything a salesperson does plus eight more hours of required coursework aimed at running the office. Salespersons and associate brokers can take the Wyoming Broker Management course too, and if they do, it lands on their elective side rather than their required side.
Anyone pursuing or maintaining a designation recognised by the National Association of REALTORS can petition the Commission for elective credit under current Commission policy.
Your first renewal arrives before your first cycle does
The most misread rule in Wyoming is not about hours at all. A newly issued licence, active or inactive, must be renewed by December 31 of the year it was issued, and no continuing education is required for that renewal.
A licence granted in February therefore renews eleven months later. A licence granted in November renews in about seven weeks. Either way, that first renewal is what starts the three-year clock, so the cycle is aligned to the calendar rather than to your licensing date. The three-year renewal itself falls on or before December 31 of the third year, and all applications have to be postmarked or submitted electronically by that date.
December 31, then a two-month window, then cancellation
Miss the December 31 date and the licence goes inactive immediately. You cannot perform or engage in real estate activity for any reason while it sits there.
There is a recovery window. A licensee who held an active licence on December 31 of the third year may submit a renewal application from January 1 through March 1 of the following year, with an additional processing fee for reactivating the lapsed licence. Applications have to be postmarked or submitted electronically on or before March 1.
After March 1, the licence is canceled. There is no third stage.
Inactive licences are not exempt from any of this. They still have to be renewed on the regular cycle, they still get canceled if the renewal is skipped, and the only thing they are excused from is the education. Reactivating an inactive licence means producing proof of the full education for the cycle along with the fees, so the hours are deferred rather than forgiven.
The fee
The three-year renewal is $350 for a broker or a salesperson, and the same $350 for a company or branch office. On top of it sits the $20 recovery fund fee, which is why the Commission lists the cost of renewing an inactive licence at $370.
The other numbers worth knowing before a deadline: a late renewal fee of $75, a $25 paper processing fee if you do not file electronically, $30 for a transfer or an active-status request, and $150 if you need a licence issued or transferred on a two-business-day turnaround.
How this compares
Forty-five hours over three years is one of the heaviest loads in the country. Spread per year it beats Ohio’s 30 over three and Indiana’s 36 over three, and it matches California’s 45 while compressing it into three years rather than four. The $350 fee equals California’s exactly, though Wyoming charges it every three years rather than every four. What has no real parallel is the required half: Wisconsin writes twelve fixed courses every licensee takes, but Wyoming runs an annual open call for proposals against criteria it republishes each March, so the required catalogue you study from is rebuilt on a yearly cadence while your own deadline sits three years out.
Add your renewal deadline to your calendar
Enter your expiration date and download a calendar file. Your own calendar will remind you at 90, 60, 30, and 7 days out. We don't ask for your email, we store nothing, and the date never leaves your device.
Works with Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, and Outlook. This is a convenience, not a compliance service. Confirm your exact deadline with the Wyoming Real Estate Commission (WREC).
How many CE hours do you have left?
Wyoming requires 45 CE hours this cycle. Enter what you've completed and see what's left. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
Hours alone aren't the whole requirement. Some must be these specific topics:
- Required education, 24 hours for salespersons and associate brokers, from classes the Commission approves against criteria it publishes each March 1
- Required education, 32 hours for responsible brokers, which must include one broker management course
- Elective education, 21 hours, in business management, ethics, customer relations and marketing, legal and regulatory compliance, sales, property management and leasing, financing, environmental issues and regulation, community relations, community planning, or construction
A convenience, not a compliance service. Confirm your exact requirement with the Wyoming Real Estate Commission (WREC). This is not legal advice.
Continuing education hours per renewal cycle
Wyoming asks for 45 hours. That is above the median of 18 across the 51 states that set a flat hour count, which run from 7 to 45. Ranked lowest to highest, Wyoming is 51 of 51.
Renewal fee
Wyoming charges $350. The median across the 48 states that publish a figure is $115, running from $0 to $578. Ranked cheapest to dearest, Wyoming is 47 of 48.
Each mark is one state. The taller line is the median, the filled dot is Wyoming. States that set no flat hour count, or publish no fee, are left out of that comparison rather than counted as zero.
